CPHR Alberta has membership types to meet the needs of HR and business professionals at all career levels.
Members of CPHR Alberta belong to a community of over 6,900 HR practitioners and business leaders. Our community includes over 3,300 CPHRs, living and working in Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. CPHR Alberta provides valuable resources for professionals at all career stages.

Accredited Student Member: $0
Accredited Student is a member category for students who can show they are currently enrolled in a CPHR Canada Accredited post-secondary program. Transcripts will confirm status as either an Accredited Student or Student Member.

General Member: $273 per year
General membership supports business professionals who want to connect with the HR community or those pursuing the CPHR designation via the Coursework Path. With a General membership, you can access all membership benefits, including member pricing on the CPHR Alberta's Career Center.

Associate Member $273 per year
Associate membership is the first step towards becoming a CPHR. As an Associate Member, you are eligible to write the National Knowledge Exam® (NKE), your next step to becoming a CPHR.
Associate Members are practicing HR professionals with a post-secondary degree or two-year diploma in HR. You can also qualify with a non-HR two-year diploma or degree if you’ve completed the coursework requirement.
To apply for Associate membership, you must:
· Provide documentation from a granting university in the form of official transcripts (must be received directly from the institution).
· Electronic copies of official transcripts will be accepted if sent to registrar@cphrab.ca directly from your Canadian post-secondary institution.
· If the degree or two-year diploma was completed outside of Canada, have IQAS or WES send a basic assessment of the diploma/degree directly to our office.

Candidate: $304 per year
Candidate Members have either successfully passed the National Knowledge Exam ® (NKE) or completed an HR program at an accredited institution and had their NKE requirement waived. Upon successful approval of the Experience Validation Assessment, Candidates in good standing with their provincial HR association are granted the CPHR designation and moved to the Chartered membership category.
Note: CPHR Candidates have ten years from the time they pass the NKE to successfully submit an Experience Validation Assessment that meets the experience requirement criteria. Candidates must keep their membership active (in good standing) with their provincial HR association to maintain their CPHR Candidate status. Where applicable, Candidates are required to provide proof of post-secondary degree credentials. Please refer to the Registration Manual or contact us for additional guidance on becoming a CPHR.
Chartered Member: $453 per year
Chartered Members are those who have either obtained their Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation in Alberta or have transferred with their designation from another province. Chartered Members must remain in good standing and continue to meet the requirements for maintaining their designation.

Retired Member: $0
A CPHR Alberta Retired Member is a CPHR who has fully retired from HR practice and no longer uses the designation for work purposes.
Requirements for Retired Status:
1. Permanently retired from full-time employment and earning less than $20,000 annually in active income*.
2. At least 55 years old.
Additional Information:
· Retired members are not required to submit a CPD Log or pay annual Membership Dues and must represent themselves as “CPHR, Retired”.
· Retired members cannot vote at the CPHR Alberta Annual General Meeting.
· If re-entering the workforce, members must apply for Chartered status, update professional development as required, and pay prorated dues for the current year.
· CPHR Alberta may request income verification at any time.
*Active income includes gross income from employment or director’s fees and/or net income from self-employment. It does not include pension, retirement income, investment income, support payments, or disability income. All other sources of income are considered “active.”

Your very first step is to create an account with our association. Click “Join CPHR Alberta” – this will take you to the CPHR Alberta Member Portal.
Click “New Customer? Click here” to create your CPHR Alberta Member Portal account.
Fill in all required fields on the application page and then click “Submit”. You will then be automatically logged-in to your new CPHR Alberta Member Portal.
Click “Apply for Membership” and carefully read through the available membership options.
Depending on which membership category you are eligible to apply for, click on “go here” – this is located at the bottom of the page. Depending on the membership category you have selected to apply for, submit any documents required for CPHR Alberta to assess your membership application, or make arrangements to have them sent to CPHR Alberta.
Pay the membership application fee to submit your membership application.
CPHR Alberta will assess your membership application to determine if you meet the criteria for membership under the category you have applied for.
Once CPHR Alberta reviews your membership application, we will send you notice via email that you have either been approved or denied membership with CPHR Alberta. Please note that submitted membership applications can take up to 60 days to be reviewed and processed.
If approved, you will need to login to your Member Portal and pay your pro-rated membership dues for the year. Once your dues have been paid, you will be an active member and a part of a community of over 6,900 Human Resources professionals – all of whom are dedicated to strengthening the HR profession in Alberta.
These prices do not include but are subject to 5% GST.
Please note: Annual Membership Dues and all the above fees are non-refundable except for the NKE Registration Fee.
