Mentorship Program

The Mentorship Program is one of our most valuable member benefits, helping hundreds of members grow professionally and personally. Walk and Talk Program

The Walk & Talk program is a one-time, two-hour meeting between senior HR leaders and HR students who are members of CPHR Alberta. It’s a valuable opportunity for students to gain career insights and ask questions about starting their HR careers. This program is hybrid, offering both in-person and virtual meetings.

Campus Ambassador Program

Campus Ambassadors are volunteer liaisons between CPHR Alberta and post-secondary campuses. Ambassadors share information about CPHR Alberta events and updates on the designation. The connection between CPHR Alberta and HR students helps prepare students for success. In turn, Ambassadors help CPHR Alberta grow and thrive as an association.


We are looking for volunteer Ambassadors from our accredited post-secondary institutions! 

Why Become a Campus Ambassador?

Campus Ambassadors can grow their student network by collaborating with fellow Ambassadors and presenting on campus.


As you prepare to graduate, this program helps connect you with the HR and business community. Networking is such an important element of growing your career and this is a great way to get started!


The tasks you complete and skills you learn from this opportunity are valuable to have on your resume. Here are some responsibilities you may be able to highlight:

  • Developing promotional campaigns
  • Setting deadlines
  • Creating high-value programs at little-to-no-cost
  • working with CPHR Alberta staff, faculty and students to achieve tangible results 

Ambassador Positions

Campus Ambassadors and Deputy Campus Ambassadors work together to be liaisons between CPHR Alberta and their campus community.


Campus Ambassadors

Campus Ambassadors will graduate no earlier than Spring 2026. Ambassadors are the primary contact between CPHR Alberta and their student body. Ambassadors lead initiatives and programs at their post-secondary institution.


Deputy Campus Ambassadors

Deputy Ambassadors will graduate no earlier than Spring 2027. Deputy Ambassadors act as a support to the Ambassadors and CPHR Alberta.


Both roles report to, Cali Kleine, Post-Secondary Coordinator


Roles and Responsibilities

The roles and responsibilities of a Campus Ambassador and Deputy Campus Ambassador include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Delivering short presentations in classes
  • Liaising with targeted student groups (e.g. student clubs)
  • Being comfortable engaging in conversations with professionals. These professionals include senior HR leaders and CPHR Alberta staff
  • Submitting association events and programs to be posted on the internal campus calendar
  • Engaging with CPHR Alberta's social media posts (LinkedIn, Twitter, Instagram)
  • Strategizing and launching word of mouth campaigns on campus
  • Collaborating through monthly meetings with other Campus Ambassadors and CPHR Alberta. Meetings happen via Go-to-Webinar, conference calls, or in-person
  • Promoting the CPHR designation and association’s brand at campus events with the support of CPHR Alberta
  • Help organize information sessions hosted by faculty when CPHR Alberta staff are onsite
  • Attending CPHR Alberta events, as needed
  • Assist in focus groups by gathering and presenting the feedback to CPHR Alberta
  • Developing creative ideas to assist with campus outreach efforts
  • Gather resources and information to increase student-focused program offerings from CPHR Alberta

Qualifications and Eligibility

  1. Applicants must be CPHR Alberta Student Members
  2. Applicants must be a full-time student enrolled in the post-secondary institution that they are applying for and have a Human Resources major/concentration/specialization and/or emphasis
  3. Must be in at least the second year of their four-year program and will graduate no earlier than June 2026
  4. Exception: Students enrolled in an HR diploma program must be in the first year of their program and graduate no earlier than Spring 2026 
  5. Required to attend nine out of 12 Ambassador meetings in a one-year term
  6. Must be an enthusiastic and active student on campus. Preference given to students who have participated in student clubs, student organizations, and have attended professional development events
  7. Reliable and committed
  8. Strong communication and people skills
  9. Friendly professional who is flexible and has great time management skills
  10. May be asked to travel to events

Time Commitment

Ambassadors meet with their chapter and CPHR Alberta for one hour each month. You must attend at least nine of the 12 meetings in their one-year term. Ambassadors may be asked to complete work between meetings. The approximate average time for this work is two-three hours per month.

HRC West Student Case Competition

CPHR Alberta, along with our partners at CPHR BC & Yukon, bring together teams of students from post-secondary business programs across Western Canada for a one-of-a-kind learning experience rolled into an action-packed weekend. Student teams are faced with a comprehensive business case that explores a pressing HR challenge identified by working CPHRs. It's a great opportunity to connect post-secondary students with industry professionals, gain real-world knowledge by completing the case study, and you can win cash prizes!

Competition Format

The 2025 HRC West Case Competition will take place at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta on March 14 & 15, 2025. Teams are responsible for their own travel to the competition, including accommodations. 

Registration

Registration is open September 16, 2024 to December 16, 2024.


The main contact for each registration will be contacted by October 21 with an invoice to submit your team registration fee of $750 plus GST. This fee will cover your entry into the competition. At this time, teams will also be required to submit a high-resolution image for each team member in JPG or PNG format (a maximum 300 MB file). Once your payment is received you will be contacted by CPHR Alberta with all past HRC West cases to practice with.


  1. Be a registered student of a participating post-secondary business program across Western Canada.
  2. Currently enrolled in 2 or more human resources courses in the current semester OR in the previous semester was enrolled in 2 or more human resources courses. And has taken 3 or more human resources courses in the past. The focus of competitors study is human resources.
  3. Be physically present at the host institution for the duration of the competition irrespective of their place of residence
  4. Able to present fluently in English to the judges
  5. Be a member of a team that has paid the registration cost of $750 +GST

Team Composition

Schools are responsible for assembling their representative team based on the above eligibility criteria. Competing teams must consist of three members and one alternate.


To prevent bias in judging, each team is also required to submit a unique team name that does not reveal their post-secondary institution.

Judging

All judges will be CPHR Alberta or CPHR BC & Yukon volunteers. They will be comprised of CPHR’s including senior managers, directors, executives, analysts, consultants and entrepreneurs.


All judges will follow the same judging template, which will be available for viewing on our website on October 2024. Judges will also receive training prior to their involvement in the competition.

Student Advisory Council

The mandate of the CPHR Alberta Student Advisory Council (SAC) is to act as a direct linkage between CPHR Alberta and the HR student population within Alberta. The SAC gives representatives opportunities to provide a future-focused perspective, input and advice on operationalizing CPHR Alberta’s strategic priorities and engagement as it relates to students, post-secondary institutions, and the future practice of the HR Profession.

Note:

  1. Student Members are not eligible to write the National Knowledge Examination® (NKE). Transfer to Associate membership status to write the NKE.
  2. A degree from an accredited post-secondary institution in Canada or an equivalent international degree is required for Associate membership and the CPHR designation.

Available to individuals who are:


  1. Enrolled in full-time or part-time HR studies (two or more courses per semester) at an accredited post-secondary institution.
  2. Enrolled in a continuing education program, taking two or more courses per semester toward an HR certificate or diploma.
  3. Internationally educated HR professionals enrolled in a career bridging program, LINC program at a recognized post-secondary institution, or immigrant-serving agency.


Proof of Enrollment:


  1. Provide proof of continued enrollment at the start of each calendar year.
  2. Acceptable documents: letter from your institution, screenshot of your current schedule, or official working transcripts.
  3. Document must include: your name, your school, and the program and courses you’re enrolled in.
