CPHR Alberta volunteers are vital to the association's success and recognized for the efforts they contribute to the HR community.

Volunteerism has and continues to be an essential cornerstone of our association.

With the support of our volunteers, we have created new programs, organized member events, developed topical editorial content and advanced strategic initiatives in the human resources profession. By volunteering your time and expertise, you contribute to the continued advancement of the human resources profession in Alberta, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.

What to know about Volunteering

Before applying to volunteer with CPHR Alberta, please download and read our Volunteer Handbook, which contains everything you need to know about volunteering with CPHR Alberta.


In order to recognize your voluntary commitment with CPHR Alberta, you must track your volunteer hours in our volunteer Time Log. Upon completion, volunteers are required to submit their log to your assigned CPHR Alberta committee manager.


Please refer to your CPD Log Handbook for more information about how your volunteer participation can be applied towards continuing professional development hours.

CPHR Alberta Volunteer Committees

Awards Committee

The Awards Selection Committee promotes the CPHR Alberta Celebrating Excellence Awards and selects the recipients of the seven unique award categories including Award of Excellence, Distinguished Career Award, Rising Star Award, Strategic Innovator Award, and Community Champion Award. 

Appeals Committee

The Appeals Committee reviews requests for appeals of the decisions from the Discipline Committee. 

Chapter Committee(s)

The Chapter Committee(s) ensure local needs are met with a standard level of consistency in programming throughout the province. The role of each Chapter Committee is to provide support to CPHR Alberta activities and events that take place in the Chapter or virtually.

Conference Learning Committee

This committee supports CPHR Alberta in planning and delivery of the CPHR Alberta Conference including overall selection of the concurrent speakers and onsite support.

Discipline Committee

The Discipline Committee handles professional and ethical complaints against Chartered and Candidate members.

DisruptHR Speaker Selection Committee

The DisruptHR Speaker Selection Committee is responsible for the overall selection of up to 14 speakers for the DisruptHR YYC event by supporting in the reviewing, selection, interviewing and the evaluation process of all speakers’ submissions.

Editorial Committee

The Editorial Committee assists CPHR Alberta to plan, source, edit and write content for the association's quarterly publication (the CPHR Alberta Magazine) and news blog.

Mentorship Committee

The Mentorship Committee is made up of CPHR Alberta members in good standing who act in an advisory capacity to CPHR Alberta staff with regard to the structure and function of the Mentorship Program, and who assist CPHR Alberta staff with mentor/protégée matching twice per year (June and December).

Registration Committee

The Registration Committee assists with CPHR designation status and reporting of continuing professional development.

Scholarship Selection Committee

Scholarship Selection Committee members will attend a virtual training/orientation session, review all application packages for the Eldon Emerson Scholarship and Diploma Scholarship, engage in rating the scholarship applicants with a rating-matrix designed by CPHR Alberta and recommend the applicant who should be awarded the scholarship.

Social Media Committee

The Social Media Committee are ambassadors of the CPHR Alberta brand, they help grow and nurture our online communities, advise CPHR Alberta staff on content HR professionals want to see on social channels, and help spread the word of Alberta's HR professionals.
