Get your CPHR Designation this Year!

Author : CPHR Alberta

Is 2024 the year you gain your CPHR Designation? As a Candidate member, the next and final step to become a Chartered Member with CPHR Alberta is submitting your Experience Validation Assessment application.

We know that the idea of completing the EVA application can be overwhelming. The CPHR Canada Competency Framework contains a lot of information and trying to fully understand how to fill out the application in alignment with the framework can feel like a lot of effort. The idea of recording your entire career and justifying your skills and knowledge can be so daunting that people sometimes hold off pursuing their designation, but that doesn’t have to be the case.

Our Professional Standards team is here to help assuage these worries and fears. We run three initiatives to make the Experience Validation Assessment process clearer for applicants and to increase the success rates for our members. We want our members to attain the CPHR designation to help them:

  • boost their potential earning ability
  • enhance their career opportunities and
  • increase their influence in their organization.

The three initiatives include:

  1. EVA Guide – This is a comprehensive tool which breaks the application process down into easy to swallow weekly bites. The Guide offers applicants week by week instructions for gathering documents, self-assessing and filling in the separate areas of the application.
  2. Virtual Candidate Orientation – These sessions lead attendees through a presentation that outlines what it means to be a Candidate member. Then, we break down how to fill out the Experience Validation Assessment application form. CPHR hopefuls can ask very specific questions and get direct feedback on their application.
  3. EVA Coaching Sessions – These are sessions over the phone where Candidates can speak directly to a member of the Professional Standards team about their unique situation to get helpful advice and guidance specific to their needs. Our Professional Standards Coordinator counsels and offers feedback to Candidates on their application to help ensure they have the best chance of success. These coaching spots are limited and fill very quickly.
Plan to complete your Experience Validation Assessment application this year and gain your designation in 2024!
The deadlines for EVA applications are May 31, 2024 and September 30, 2024.

Author: Taia Northrup , 2026 Social Media Committee Volunteer Building Safer Workplaces Every April 28th, World Day for Safety and Health at Work serves as an important reminder that workplace safety isn’t just a policy, it is a commitment to people. While procedures, protocols, and compliance requirements are essential, the true foundation of a safe workplace lies in a culture where employees feel valued, heard, and protected. In today’s evolving environment, safety goes beyond hard hats and hazard signs. It includes psychological safety, inclusive practices, and the ability for employees to speak up without fear. As organizations continue to adapt in a tech driven world, the role of Human Resources in shaping and sustaining this culture has never been more critical. Traditionally, workplace safety has been associated with physical risk prevention. While this is still vital, modern organizations are expanding their focus to include mental health, preventing burnout, and overall well-being. Which Leads to the Culture of Psychological Safety A truly safe workplace is one where employees feel comfortable sharing ideas, raising concerns, and admitting mistakes without fear. Psychological safety is essential for innovation, collaboration, and overall organizational success. Safety doesn’t always require large scale initiatives… Often it is small, consistent actions that make the biggest difference, these include: Checking in with employees regularly Offering training and refreshers Celebrating safe practices and milestones Creating opportunities for feedback As we recognize World Day for Safety and Health at Work, it is an opportunity to reflect on how we can continue to build safer, healthier workplaces. By prioritizing both physical and psychological well-being, organizations can create environments where employees thrive. At its core, safety is about people. When we lead with empathy, listen with intention, and act with purpose, we don’t just meet safety standards, we exceed them!

With expertise in ethical leadership, organizational governance, people systems, and inclusive decision‑making, CPHR professionals are well positioned to contribute at the highest levels of public service. The Government of Canada is currently seeking applications for the role of Chairperson of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) Board of Directors, a Governor in Council appointment that offers an opportunity to shape national conversations on race relations and advance meaningful change across Canada.
