CPHR Alberta, along with our partners at CPHR BC & Yukon, bring together teams of students from post-secondary business programs across Western Canada for a one-of-a-kind learning experience rolled into an action-packed weekend. Student teams are faced with a comprehensive business case that explores a pressing HR challenge identified by working CPHRs. It's a great opportunity to connect post-secondary students with industry professionals, gain real-world knowledge by completing the case study, and you can win cash prizes!

Registration

Registration opens September 16, 2024 - Click here to register!

Registration closes December 16, 2024. 

The main contact for each registration will be contacted by October 21 with an invoice to submit your team registration fee of $750 plus GST. This fee will cover your entry into the competition. At this time, teams will also be required to submit a high-resolution image for each team member in JPG or PNG format (a maximum 300 MB file). Once your payment is received you will be contacted by CPHR Alberta with all past HRC West cases to practice with.

  • Be a registered student of a participating post-secondary business program across Western Canada./li>
  • Currently enrolled in 2 or more human resources courses in the current semester OR in the previous semester was enrolled in 2 or more human resources courses. And has taken 3 or more human resources courses in the past. The focus of competitors study is human resources.
  • Be physically present at the host institution for the duration of the competition irrespective of their place of residence
  • Able to present fluently in English to the judges
  • Be a member of a team that has paid the registration cost of $750 +GST

Team Composition

Schools are responsible for assembling their representative team based on the above eligibility criteria. Competing teams must consist of three members and one alternate.

To prevent bias in judging, each team is also required to submit a unique team name that does not reveal their post-secondary institution.

Competition Format

The 2025 HRC West Case Competition will take place at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta on March 14 & 15, 2025. Teams are responsible for their own travel to the competition, including accommodations.

Judging

All judges will be CPHR Alberta or CPHR BC & Yukon volunteers. They will be comprised of CPHR’s including senior managers, directors, executives, analysts, consultants and entrepreneurs.

All judges will follow the same judging template, which will be available for viewing on our website on October 2024. Judges will also receive training prior to their involvement in the competition.
